Manufacturing Process of steel casting at our Steel Casting Foundry in Kanjikode

At our Steel Casting Foundry in Kanjikode, we pride ourselves in producing quality steel parts through a precise manufacturing process. So, let’s look at how we transform raw materials into high-quality, long-lasting, precision-crafted steel castings.

Steel Casting Foundry in Kanjikode
Pattern Making
In our foundry, we have a special area (about 10,000 square feet) just for keeping our pattern equipment safe. Since we are a Jobbing type foundry, we need to store these patterns for a long time. To make it easy, we plan to use racks with a special crane for storing them. We also have a pattern shop where we take care of and fix patterns when needed.

Methoding
We use a cool computer program called AutoCAST Simulation Software to help us figure out how to make the castings. This program predicts the whole process of casting, from pouring the metal to cooling it down. This saves us from doing many test runs and helps us make good castings faster. We keep special cards for each item to remember how to make it.

Moulding
When we make the mold for the casting, we use a process called CO2, and we have a machine that mixes sand automatically. It can mix 6 metric tons of sand every hour. We also use a special process for making the inner parts called cores. These cores get baked in an oven automatically.

Melting
In the melting area, we have two special furnaces that use electricity to melt the metal. These furnaces can melt up to 1000 kilograms of metal at once. They have a fancy tool that shows us how much energy we are using and makes sure the melting is just right. We also measure the temperature of the melted metal. Our melting area is clean and follows the rules to protect the environment.

Finishing
After the metal is cast, we use machines to clean it up and make it look good. We have a big machine that blasts the metal with tiny bits to remove extra parts. We also have special furnaces that make the metal strong. They are controlled by computers and follow all the rules. We test the metal to make sure it's good quality and meets the right measurements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) :-

Q :- What is the best steel for casting in Kanjikode?
Answer :- The best steel for casting depends on the specific requirements of the application. Common options include carbon steel for general use, stainless steel for corrosion resistance, and alloy steel for enhanced strength and hardness.
Q :- Is casting steel expensive?
Answer :- The cost of casting steel can vary depending on factors such as the complexity of the casting design, the type of steel alloy used, and the quantity of parts being produced. Generally, casting steel can be more expensive than other materials due to the high temperatures and energy requirements involved in the casting process, as well as the need for specialized equipment and skilled labor.
Q :- What is the grade of cast steel?
Answer :-The grade of cast steel typically depends on its composition and properties required for specific applications. Common grades include ASTM A27 for carbon steel castings, ASTM A148 for high-strength alloy steel castings, and ASTM A743/A744 for corrosion-resistant stainless steel castings. It's essential to choose the appropriate grade based on factors like strength, corrosion resistance, and temperature resistance for optimal performance.
Q :- Is cast better than steel?
Answer :- It depends on the application. Cast iron, known for its excellent casting properties, is often preferred for applications requiring high vibration damping and wear resistance, such as machine bases and engine blocks. However, steel offers superior strength, toughness, and versatility, making it the preferred choice for a wide range of applications, including structural components, automotive parts, and tools.
Q :- What is the strongest form of casting in Kanjikode?
Answer :- Investment casting, also known as lost-wax casting, is often considered one of the strongest forms of casting. It allows for intricate shapes and precise dimensions, resulting in parts with exceptional strength and durability. This method is widely used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and medical where high-performance components are required.
Q :- What is the best type of casting in Kanjikode?
Answer :- The best type of casting depends on the requirements of your project. Common options include sand casting, investment casting, and die casting. Sand casting is versatile and cost-effective for large parts, while investment casting offers intricate detail and tight tolerances. Die casting provides high production rates and dimensional accuracy for mass production.
Q :- What is the process of casting steel?
Answer :- The process of casting steel involves melting steel in a furnace, pouring it into a mold cavity, and allowing it to solidify. Once solidified, the casting is removed from the mold, cleaned, and finished to meet desired specifications. This process can be performed using various casting methods such as sand casting, investment casting, or die casting, depending on the complexity of the part and desired quality.
Q :- What is the strongest cast metal?
Answer :- Titanium is widely regarded as the strongest cast metal due to its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to corrosion. It offers superior strength compared to other cast metals like steel and aluminum, making it a preferred choice for applications requiring high strength and durability.
